Massive Commercial Roll-Out of Quectel RG620T 5G Module in Australia

Category articles

Quectel Wireless Solutions, a leading global provider of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, in conjunction with MediaTek, a major player in the semiconductor industry, have made public the adoption of the globally certified Quectel RG620T 5G module and the MediaTek BE7200 Wi-Fi7 modules for large-scale commercial deployment in Australia. This marks the first commercial, high-volume production use of the RG620T and is set to bring 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) to a wide range of end users in Australia.

Quectel RG620T 5G Module

The Quectel RG620T is a 5G Sub-6GHz module series, purpose-built to cater to IoT and extended mobile broadband (eMBB) applications. The module boasts impressive maximum data rates over 5G standalone networks of 7.01Gbps downlink and 2.5Gbps uplink. For non-standalone networks, it delivers a data rate of 5.67Gbps downlink and 1.46Gbps uplink. The compact module, measuring 44.0 x 53.0 x 2.95mm, can operate within a temperature range of -30 °C to +70 °C. Moreover, Quectel offers extended temperature variants and customizations to fit the specific needs of carriers.

Impact on Fixed Wireless Access

The Quectel RG620T has been designed with carriers’ FWA requirements in mind, targeting use cases such as customer premise equipment, home and enterprise gateways, and mobile hotspots. The chosen MediaTek T830 system on chip, equipped with four high-performance ARM Cortex-A55 CPUs, offers additional CPU capacity inside the modem. The MediaTek platform’s ability to accommodate cellular and Wi-Fi in the same device, along with its cost-effectiveness, enhances its appeal and applicability.

Advancements in Wi-Fi Technology

Wi-Fi 7, incorporated in the MediaTek BE7200 module, brings about a significant leap forward in wireless technology, offering several benefits to consumers. It provides higher throughput, enabling faster data transfer speeds for various online activities, including streaming and gaming. Moreover, it can accommodate more concurrent users without a dip in the network’s performance, making it particularly suitable for crowded households or public spaces. Its higher bandwidth allows seamless handling of high-demand applications and services, and its integration with 5G capabilities paves the way for more innovative application scenarios.

Collaboration with MediaTek

Quectel and MediaTek have had a long-standing partnership, working together to pioneer technology and deliver faster, more stable 5G products globally. MediaTek’s T830 and Filogic 680 chipsets form the backbone of the Quectel RG620T and are now facilitating mobile broadband connectivity for users in Australia.

Advanced Features

The T830 also supports advanced features of 3TX (Transmit Antennas) and 8RX (Receive Antennas), greatly enhancing uplink and downlink speeds, spectral efficiency, and coverage quality. This ensures stable and super-fast 5G speeds even in complex indoor and outdoor environments. These features align with tier-one carrier roadmap and requirement, and Quectel can deliver a module to meet these feature requirements.
