Triad Semiconductor Launches Triad Micro Devices for Aerospace and Defense

Category articles

Triad Semiconductor, Inc. (Triad) announces the formation of Triad Micro Devices (TMD), a ‘pure-play’ subsidiary committed to the development of analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits tailored for the aerospace and defense industry. TMD emerges as a beacon of innovation, specializing in advanced, reliable solutions designed to address the unique challenges of terrestrial and space applications.

Strategic Focus on High-Reliability Solutions

Under the guidance of Jim Kemerling, CTO of TMD, the division is poised to become a center of excellence for high-performance integrated circuit development. “TMD’s foundation is built upon Triad’s extensive experience in the aerospace and defense sector, leveraging our analog and mixed-signal IC design expertise, advanced design tools, and our patented ‘ViArray’ technology,” Kemerling asserts. This strategic focus enables TMD to offer solutions that streamline design processes, accelerate qualification, reduce costs, and mitigate risks.

Innovative ‘ViArray’ Technology

TMD’s ViArray technology provides a versatile approach to circuit design, offering significant advantages in cost, development time, and qualification efforts. Whether through ViArray or a full-custom solution, TMD excels in delivering optimal Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) configurations to meet stringent industry requirements.

Extending Legacy and Innovation

Lynn Hayden, CEO of Triad Semiconductor, highlights TMD’s emergence from Triad’s rich research and development legacy in aerospace and defense. “Our unique ViArray technology, combined with a dedicated team focused on analog and mixed-signal solutions, positions us to build upon our legacy and expand our market presence,” says Hayden. TMD’s approach to integrating multiple Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) components into a single device addresses the End-of-Life (EOL) challenges, promising solution availability for up to 25 years and aligning with the lifespan of defense systems.

Addressing Radiation Hardening and Qualification

TMD’s Radiation Hardened by Design (RHBD) ViArrays, meeting MIL-PRF-38535 standards, underscore the division’s commitment to reducing time to market and qualification costs for its clients. This initiative demonstrates TMD’s dedication to innovation and customer satisfaction in the aerospace and defense industry.

Future Directions

With a steadfast commitment to redefining the possibilities in analog and mixed-signal integrated circuit development, TMD is set to spearhead advancements in the sector. The establishment of TMD marks a pivotal step in Triad’s journey, promising to deliver cutting-edge solutions that meet the evolving needs of the aerospace and defense industry.
