Orange Pi Launches AIPro with Advanced Huawei Ascend AI Processor

Orange Pi has introduced the AIPro, a new single board computer (SBC) designed specifically for AI applications. The AIPro is powered by a Huawei Ascend AI quad-core 64-bit processor, capable of delivering impressive AI inference performance with up to 20 TOPS (INT8) or 8 TOPS (FP16).

Robust Specifications for High-Performance AI Computing

The Orange Pi AIPro comes equipped with either 8GB or 16GB of LPDDR4X system memory, operating at 3200 Mbps. It includes a 512Mbit SPI flash for storage, along with support for additional storage options like microSD cards, eMMC flash modules up to 256GB, and M.2 NVMe or SATA SSDs.

Extensive Connectivity and Video Output Options

This SBC features a wide range of connectivity options. It includes two HDMI 2.0 ports, one MIPI DSI connector, and an AV port for video output. For camera interfaces, the board offers two MIPI CSI connectors. Networking is facilitated through a Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 port and WiFi 5 connectivity, supplemented with Bluetooth 4.2. The board also houses two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 3.0 Type-C port, and a micro USB port for UART console access.

Designed for Diverse AI Applications

The AIPro, with its advanced Huawei Ascend AI processor, is suitable for a variety of AI applications such as natural language processing, real-time video analytics, augmented reality, robotics, drones, and AIoT applications. Its integrated 3D GPU, speculated to be similar to Mali-G57, enhances its processing capabilities, making it a versatile tool for developers and researchers.

Operating System Support and Development Tools

Orange Pi states that the AIPro supports Ubuntu and openEuler operating systems. It also integrates with Huawei’s MindX SDK, which supports popular AI frameworks like Tensorflow and Pytorch, offering developers a range of tools for AI application development.

Expansion and Power Features

The board boasts a 40-pin GPIO header for expansion and includes a reset button, power button, LEDs, and a 12V fan connector. In terms of power supply, it can handle up to 20V (65W) via a USB-C PD port and includes a 2-pin header for a LiPo battery with an onboard charging IC.

Compact and Lightweight Design

With dimensions of 107 x 68 mm and weighing only 82 grams, the Orange Pi AIPro is compact and lightweight. This design makes it ideal for embedding in a wide range of devices and applications where space and weight are critical factors.
