Infineon Launches TDA388xx Family for High-Efficiency Power Regulation

Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) introduces the TDA388xx family of synchronous buck regulators, a significant advancement in power system efficiency and compactness. These regulators, ideal for the server, AI, datacom, telecom, and storage markets, offer both 12 A and 20 A options, utilizing a fast constant on-time (COT) control scheme for optimized performance.

Innovative Design and Performance Features

The TDA388xx regulators ensure rapid transient response, reduce the passive component count, and minimize board space usage. They operate over a wide input voltage range from 4.0 V to 16 V and can be further extended with an external bias supply for diverse DC-DC scenarios.

Unique Internal Compensation and Versatility

The TDA388xx family, comprising TDA38812, TDA38813, TDA38825, and TDA38826, stands out with its internal compensation feature. This design improvement reduces the need for external components and enhances ease of use. The family is versatile, with selectable switching frequencies, soft-start functionality, and a programmable current limit for precise control. It supports both fixed frequency continuous conduction mode (FCCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), with voltage tracking enabled through an external reference input.

Built-in Protection Features for Safety

The series incorporates several protection features to ensure safety during fault conditions, including pre-bias startup, thermally compensated current limiting, overvoltage protection (OVP), undervoltage protection (UVP), and thermal shutdown. These features make the TDA388xx series particularly suitable for demanding power system environments.

Package and Temperature Range

Housed in a ROHS-compliant QFN-21 package, the TDA388xx series operates effectively over a temperature range of -40 to 125°C. This broad operating range makes it ideal for a variety of challenging applications.

Impact on Power System Market

With the introduction of the TDA388xx family, Infineon has taken a significant leap forward in meeting the needs of modern power systems. These regulators offer a blend of efficiency, compact design, adaptability, and safety, catering to the evolving demands of the power system market.
