Pickering Electronics Unveils Series 219 High Voltage Surface Mount Reed Relays at Productronica

Category articles

Pickering Electronics, a leader in high-performance reed relay manufacturing, has announced the launch of its Series 219 high voltage surface mount reed relays at Productronica, the world’s premier electronics manufacturing industry trade fair. These advanced reed relays are available in various package types, each sharing the same dimensions but differing in pin positions, and are capable of switching up to 1000V. They are available in 1 Form A (SPST), 2 Form A (DPST), and 1 Form B (SPNC) contact configurations, with switch stand-off reaching up to 3000V and switch-coil isolation as high as 5000V stand-off.

The Series 219 surface mount reed relays are designed for a multitude of high voltage applications. These include mixed-signal semiconductor testers, medical equipment testing, electric vehicle (EV) charge point testing, and monitoring solar cell photovoltaic efficiency, showcasing their versatility and reliability in critical testing scenarios.

In addition to their robust switching capabilities, Series 219 reed relays offer three coil voltage options – 3V, 5V, or 12V. The 2 Form A package supports switch stand-off up to 1.5kV, the 1 Form B up to 2kV, and the 1 Form A up to 3kV, while maintaining a switch-coil isolation stand-off of up to 5kV in 1 Form A and 1 Form B configurations. These relays are capable of switching up to 0.7A and 10W, functioning effectively across a wide temperature range from -40°C to +105°C. Additionally, all part numbers in this series come with an optional diode.

Kevin Mallett, Technical Specialist at Pickering Electronics, highlighted the uniqueness of their product offering, noting that Pickering is the only manufacturer producing surface mount high voltage relays in both 2 Form A and 1 Form B packages. Mallett also emphasized the company’s commitment to customization, offering a range of standard build options for the Series 219 Reed Relay, and a bespoke reed relay service for applications with specific requirements.

Pickering’s Series 219 high voltage reed relays exemplify the company’s dedication to quality and innovation. Each relay incorporates top-grade instrument switches with appropriate blade coatings for the specific currents and voltages required by various applications. A notable feature of these relays is the incorporation of Pickering’s SoftCenter™ technology, which significantly reduces internal stress on the reed switch, thus extending the relay’s lifespan and ensuring stable contact resistance. Additionally, the use of magnetic Mu-Metal shielding and electrostatic screening in these relays effectively prevents erroneous operations, a testament to Pickering’s focus on delivering reliable and efficient relay solutions.
