GigaDevice, a prominent semiconductor device supplier, has announced the launch of the GD32VW553 series Combo Wireless MCU, leveraging the RISC-V core. This new series stands out with its support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth LE 5.2, offering enhanced wireless connectivity options for a variety of applications.

The GD32VW553 series MCU features advanced Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits (RFIC), bolstered security mechanisms, ample storage capacity, and a comprehensive range of universal interfaces. Its efficient design and cost-effective optimization make it ideal for market applications demanding efficient wireless capabilities. The lineup consists of eight distinct models, with GigaDevice now taking requests for samples and evaluation boards in two compact package options: QFN40 and QFN32. These products are scheduled for mass production and will be available for delivery starting in December 2023.

Eric Jin, GigaDevice’s Product Marketing Director, highlights the series’ optimization with the RISC-V open-source instruction set architecture. This combination addresses the growing connectivity demands in the home appliances and AIoT markets, striking a balance between processing performance, design solutions, and material costs. The GD32VW553 caters to complex wireless design challenges in high-density environments, offering a secure, reliable, and efficient connectivity experience.

The GD32VW553 series MCU is designed to excel in real-time processing and efficient communication. It incorporates a new open-source instruction set architecture with a RISC-V processor core, capable of a maximum clock frequency of 160 MHz. It features advanced DSP hardware acceleration, a double-precision floating-point unit, and various other resources, resulting in outstanding energy efficiency and scalability.

For wireless communication, the integrated 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 6 RF module complies with IEEE 802.11ax standard and supports OFDMA and MU-MIMO, ensuring high-efficiency and low-latency communication. The Bluetooth LE 5.2 RF module enhances communication distance, throughput, and security while saving power. These features facilitate the establishment of stable and high-speed wireless networks in complex environments.

The new Combo Wireless MCU offers advanced baseband and RF performance with additional features such as wireless coexistence protocols and Automatic Gain Control. The Target Wake Time of Wi-Fi 6 improves energy-saving efficiency, catering to wireless devices with low power consumption and extended battery life.

The GD32VW553 series integrates up to 4MB Flash, 320KB SRAM, and 32KB configurable Instruction Cache. It also provides multiple security features, including WPA3 encryption, hardware encryption, and decryption engines, as well as a Public Key Cryptographic Acceleration Unit and True Random Number Generator. These features ensure secure connections and management of high-performance wireless devices.

GigaDevice offers a range of free development tools for the GD32VW553 series MCU, including GD32 IDE, GD-LINK debugging and download tool, and GD32 All-In-One Programmer. Additionally, the company has released SDKs containing the underlying driver, wireless protocol stack, and application routine. Development boards compatible with various RTOS are also available, enabling rapid deployment of connectivity devices.

The GD32VW553 series MCU meets the Matter over Wi-Fi application standard developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), enhancing the interoperability of smart home systems. GigaDevice is actively collaborating with module manufacturers and developer platforms to offer comprehensive “turnkey solutions” for IoT platforms and product solutions that support various wireless communication technologies.
