Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFNNY / OTCQX: IFX) today unveiled the company’s fifth-generation CAPSENSE capacitive and conductive touch-sensing human-machine interface (HMI) technology. The next generation CAPSENSE solution that is built into PSoC  microcontrollers offers greater performance and lower power consumption for high-end user interfaces for industrial, home appliances consumer, as well as IoT products. The improved HMI allows for advanced solutions such as proximity sensing, which has enhanced detection distance, gesture detection and directivity, in addition to hover detection for the next generation of advanced touchscreens.

With 10 times more performance, and a tenth energy consumption compared to the previous generation models, the new CAPSENSE technology lets designers design more user-friendly interfaces as well as significantly reducing overall power consumption in order to keep up with the demands for battery powered IoT devices. The most recent CAPSENSE generation is suitable for industrial and home appliance applications, such as smart door locks as well as smart switches, thermostats smart speakers and industrial touchscreens, power tools and many other IoT devices. This new technology is suitable for applications that require large touchscreens for appliances for the home and industrial, like induction cooktops, washer and dryers refrigerators, ovens, and much more.

“As the leader in capacitive touch sensing technology nearing four billion units sold, we are excited to offer our fifth generation CAPSENSE technology to designers,” said Steve Tateosian, Vice President of IoT Compute and Wireless Business Unit of Infineon. “This new generation of CAPSENSE technology builds on our established leadership with an all-new ratiometric and differential sensing architecture. It provides improved noise immunity, and a robust and reliable HMI solution to perform even in the harshest environments with extreme electrical noises, and under extreme weather and temperature.”

Infineon’s proprietary technology CAPSENSE allows designers to create more sophisticated HMIs for the next generation of devices that have diverse user interfaces that have touch needs. With its ultra-low power capabilities as well as the ability to fit into smaller size it is suitable for touchscreen interfaces for wearables, hearables and other IoT applications. The latest CAPSENSE technology allows advanced HMI solutions such as proximity sensing, which has enhanced detection distance, gesture detection, and directivity. A new autonomous sensing mode allows use without the need for a CPU, which reduces the power consumption, and a brand new ratiometric sensing technology along with a different signal path increases performance and noise resistance.
