AAEON Unveils the PICO-ADN4: A Powerful Addition to the PICO-ITX Board Line

Category articles

AAEON, a leading innovator in embedded solutions, has recently announced the launch of its latest product in the PICO-ITX board series: the PICO-ADN4. This new board introduces significant upgrades, making it an ideal fit for the demanding requirements of Industry 4.0 applications.

Robust and Versatile Design

The PICO-ADN4 is designed to support a range of CPUs from the latest Intel® Core™ i3 Processor N-series, Intel Atom® x7000E Series, and Intel® Processor N-series platform (formerly Alder Lake-N). It offers SKUs with standard and wide-temperature ranges, accommodating both regular and extreme industrial environments. The fanless design, coupled with a 12V DC input and an optional DC-DC converter for 9V ~ 36V power input, ensures reliability in diverse operational settings.

System Memory and Data Transmission

A notable enhancement in the PICO-ADN4 is the transition from LPDDR4x to LPDDR5 system memory, aimed at achieving higher data transmission speeds essential for low-latency applications. The soldered memory system also enhances the board’s resilience against vibrations.

Advanced Connectivity Features

Responding to customer feedback, AAEON has upgraded the PICO-ADN4 with a superior Ethernet interface. It features one Intel® I226-V port for 2.5GbE and a second port with Realtek RTL8111H-CG support for gigabit Ethernet networking. The board also includes two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports and an HDMI 1.4 port.

Diverse Internal Connectors

The PICO-ADN4 is equipped with a variety of internal connectors, including two serial COM connectors, 4-bit GPIO, and SMBus, supporting a range of communication and control functions in industrial settings. The board’s display outputs include HDMI and an LVDS connector, co-laid with eDP for HMI displays.

Expansion Capabilities

For expansion, the PICO-ADN4 supports Wi-Fi through an M.2 2230 E-Key and additional storage via a full-size mSATA slot. The slot can also accommodate an mPCIe module through BIOS settings. A BIO feature allows for further expansion, offering functions like DDI, LPC, PCIe, or SMBus, though this requires a customized BIOS.

Enhanced Graphic Capabilities and Energy Efficiency

The PICO-ADN4, despite its low-power processor lineup, delivers substantial upgrades in graphic capabilities. The integration of Intel® UHD Graphics for 12th Gen Intel® Processors provides enhanced graphics rendering. Additionally, the board’s processors offer improved single-core frequencies, reinforcing its suitability for graphic-intensive applications in industrial settings.

AAEON’s PICO-ADN4 represents a significant step forward in the PICO-ITX board series, offering a versatile and efficient solution for a range of industrial applications. Its robust design, advanced connectivity, expansion capabilities, and improved graphics make it a top choice for professionals in the field of industrial automation and control.
