RZ/V2H – An Advanced Microprocessor for AI Applications
The RZ/V2H MPU incorporates the third generation of Renesas’ dynamically reconfigurable processor for AI (DRP-AI3) accelerator, making it a significant part of the RZ/V series. The DRP-AI accelerator executes complex image AI models at an impressive power efficiency of 10 TOPS per watt (TOPS/W), showcasing a performance that is up to 10 times higher than conventional microprocessors. Moreover, the RZ/V2H features another DRP that can be employed in image processing and robotics applications.
High-Speed Connectivity and Improved Performance
The RZ/V2H microprocessor is designed with high-speed applications in mind, featuring PCIe Gen3, USB 3.2, and Gigabit Ethernet. These features make the microprocessor ideal for autonomous robotics and factory automation machine vision. Compared to previous products like the RZ/G2L MPU, the RZ/V2H provides a performance boost, enabling the processing of more data in real-time and eliminating the necessity for cloud computing platforms.
Detailed Specifications of Renesas RZ/V2H
The RZ/V2H microprocessor is equipped with 4x 64-bit Arm Cortex-A55 cores for application processing (up to 1.8 GHz), 2x 32-bit Arm Cortex-R8 cores for real-time processing (up to 800 MHz), and 1x 32-bit Arm Cortex-M33 core for system management (up to 200 MHz). For memory, it boasts 6MB on-chip SRAM with ECC and an external DDR memory interface. It also comes with a 2-channel memory controller for LPDDR4-3200 or LPDDR4X-3200 with a 32-bit bus width and SDHI (eMMC/SD).
Support for AI Applications and Developer Tools
Renesas has collaborated with SEGGER to provide support for the RZ/V2H via the J-link debug probe. The company has also introduced a library of pre-trained models and an AI Linux software development kit (SDK) to facilitate rapid development. An evaluation board, RZ/V2H-EVK, is available to test AI applications during the early stages of the design process.
